Rethinking Fireproof Houses-The Problem of Wildland Fires_Crimson Publishers

Image
Rethinking Fireproof Houses-The Problem of Wildland Fires by Brancob F in  Crimson publishers :  Open Journal of Civil Engineering In recent years, fires had a major impact on the forest, mostly due to high combustibility of the wildland and to climate change. Fires spread to the wildland-urban interface, due to wind effects and poor urban forest area management, causing severe lasting damage or even the destruction of dwellings. This paper presents a summary analysis on solutions for new houses (“fireproof houses”) using current building materials but with characteristics to maintain the overall structure for a longer time during a wildland fire exposure. https://crimsonpublishers.com/acet/fulltext/ACET.000565.php For more articles in  Open Journal of Civil Engineering   Please click on the link  https://crimsonpublishers.com/acet/

Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge Performance Analysis under Heavy Rainfall_Crimson Publishers

Image
Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge Performance Analysis under Heavy Rainfall by Liu KF in  Crimson publishers :  Open Journal of Civil Engineering Rainfall index has become the most important index in all rainfall-induced natural disaster. Rainfall intensity in 5 or 10 minutes, accumulated rainfall amount in 1 hour to 24 hours are most used index. The dominate rainfall data comes from wide distributed traditional rainfall gauge. Although rainfall radars are used and considered to be better than traditional rainfall gauge, but Radar data still needs rain gauge data for calibration and justification. The dominant type of rain gauge is the ticking bucket rain gauge (TBR). This research derived the error and accuracy of TBR. The equations of motion were derived through the conservation of linear momentum and angular momentum. An initial value problem was obtained, and the input rainfall was calculated using the 4th order Runge-Kutta method. The result of the theory was compared with ISO ce...

Enhancement Techniques of Parabolic Trough Collectors: A Review of Past and Recent Technologies_Crimson Publishers

Image
Enhancement Techniques of Parabolic Trough Collectors: A Review of Past and Recent Technologies by Imran Afgan in  Crimson publishers :  Open Journal of Civil Engineering Parabolic Trough Collectors (PTC) are one of the most widely used technology amongst the solar thermal systems used by the power generation industry. In recent years, numerous scientific investigations have focused on this topic to assess the thermal performance and to improve its thermal efficiency. The current paper presents a short but concise review of the PTC system showing the recent and past studies in a quest to improve and enhance the thermal and optical efficiencies. We discuss briefly the techniques used for single and two-phase flow modelling, design variables and experimental processes. Furthermore, studies investigating the enhancement of thermal performance are critically summarized such as: use of nanofluids as a working fluid and passive heat transfer enhancement techniques (inserts for...

Ventilation and Humidity Control in Underground Utility Tunnel: an Under-Studied Topic_Crimson Publishers

Image
Ventilation and Humidity Control in Underground Utility Tunnel: an Under-Studied Topic by Guoqing He in  Crimson publishers :  Open Journal of Civil Engineering Underground utility tunnel refers to a passage built underground to accommodate two or more types of urban engineering pipelines, including water supply pipes, sewer pipes, steam, gas, electricity, fiber optics, television cables, telephone cables, etc. It allows not only comprehensive utilization and resource sharing of underground space but also an easy and safe access to these service infrastructures for regular inspections and maintenance that would otherwise require recurring street works in the case of direct burial trenches, impacting on traffic, business, and environment. The initial investment is high but can be compensated by later benefits in maintenance. https://crimsonpublishers.com/acet/fulltext/ACET.000562.php For more articles in  Open Journal of Civil Engineering   Please click on the link...

The Humanization of Prison Spaces_Crimson Publishers

Image
The Humanization of Prison Spaces by Cordeiro SF in  Crimson publishers :  Open Journal of Civil Engineering This short communication discusses how the scarcity of studies on criminal architecture in Latin America results in a reduction in the number of architectural and engineering solutions and opposes the vast scientific production in the field of human sciences, which seeks to understand prison reality and transformation / improvement of the punitive system. Here, the autor proposes the need to develop research and humanization strategies for prisons in order to contribute to the process of architecture design and construction of the penal building, while there is no other form of social control than deprivation of liberty. https://crimsonpublishers.com/acet/fulltext/ACET.000561.php For more articles in  Open Journal of Civil Engineering   Please click on the link  https://crimsonpublishers.com/acet/
