Implementation of Knowledge Management in Construction Projects_Crimson Publishers

Image
Implementation of Knowledge Management in Construction Projects by Kasim A Korkmaz in Crimson Publishers : Open Journal of Civil Engineering Knowledge management is a tool that can be used by construction companies at management level to reduce time consumption on data process and transmittal in various stages of existing and future projects. This tool helps in communication between different layers of the companies and in transferring data and information from the completed projects in the past. Since the construction industry is one of the biggest industries in the world, it has lots of different applications and practices with diverse projects. Based on a comprehensive literature review of empirical research and detailed case studies, it is found that, there have been general, as well as project specific elements existing to prevent firms from applying knowledge acquired from their past performance. Lack of coordination and communication slows down the transfer of data from pa...

Study of Screw Structures in Order to Increase the Service Life_Crimson Publishers

Study of Screw Structures in Order to Increase the Service Life by  Epifantseva K in Crimson Publishers :  Advancements in Civil Engineering & Technology An alternative to waste incineration is municipal waste recycling by moulding in extrusion machines to make pellets to be further used in the fuel or construction industries. The profitability of a waste recycling facility is dependent on a sound choice of extrusion equipment with the best value for money [1]. https://crimsonpublishers.com/acet/fulltext/ACET.000537.php For more open access journals in   Crimson Publishers   please click on the link   https://crimsonpublishersresearch.com/ For more articles in  Open Journal of Civil Engineering   Please click on the link  https://crimsonpublishers.com/acet/ Follow On Publons  :  https://publons.com/publisher/6342/crimson-publishers Follow On Linkedin :  https://www.linkedin.com/company/crimsonpublishers ...

Modelling Radiation Damping in Rocking Wall Systems_Crimson Publishers

Modelling Radiation Damping in Rocking Wall Systems by  Ghadir Haikal in  Crimson Publishers :  Advancements in Civil Engineering & Technology In the growing concern of sustainable infrastructure, rocking wall systems have emerged as an economically viable solution to provide seismic resilience, particularly for the rehabilitation of existing structures. Rocking walls are stiff elements that can rotate freely, or rock, at their base, and constrain a structure to its first node of vibration under lateral loading. This prevents undesirable mechanisms such as soft story failure and activates plastic hinges in other parts of the structure, which ensures maximum energy dissipation and mitigates seismic structural damage. Although the performance of rocking wall systems has been studied in research and practice there are issues regarding their rocking motion, particularly in the presence of dissipation in the soil, otherwise referred to as radiation damping. Current pr...

Tensile Behavior of Single Cast-in Anchors in Plastic Hinge Zones_Crimson Publishers

Tensile Behavior of Single Cast-in Anchors in Plastic Hinge Zones by Jian Zhao in  Crimson Publishers :  Advancements in Civil Engineering & Technology This paper presents two tests of ¾-in. diameter cast-in anchors embedded in the plastic hinge zone of reinforced concrete columns. Design codes, such as ACI 318-11, do not allow concrete anchors in concrete that could be substantially damaged during an earthquake unless special reinforcement is provided. Recent studies have concluded that key role of anchor reinforcement, in addition to carrying the forces from the anchors, is to protect concrete around the anchors from splitting, breaking out, and crushing. The anchor reinforcement in this study was designed according to the recommendation. The column specimens were subjected to quasi-static cyclic loading before the test anchors were loaded in tension. Ductile steel fracture was achieved in both test anchors despite cracks and concrete spalling occurred to the concret...

Virtual Instruments for Urban Design Decision-Making Process_Crimson Publishers

Image
Virtual Instruments for Urban Design Decision-Making Process by  Marc Aurel Schnabel in Crimson Publishers :  Advancements in Civil Engineering & Technology The paper presents a framework to develop participatory urban design decision-making interfaces for the early stage of design. We produce a parametric integrated system to generate urban configurations that relate to functional areas, land-divisions, construction cost and possible revenue. We speculate this kind of interface can engage stakeholders in urban design decision-making processes. The paper presents instruments to cater urban parameters according to the interests of the designer and need of the design context. As a proof of concept, we have tested the interface in a low-density suburb of Wellington, New Zealand. We conclude the paper with an overview of our virtual design communication instruments that offer further participatory engagement throughout an urban design process. https://crimsonpublishe...
