Implementation of Knowledge Management in Construction Projects by Kasim A Korkmaz in Crimson Publishers: Open Journal of Civil Engineering

Knowledge management is a tool that can be used by construction companies at management level to reduce time consumption on data process and transmittal in various stages of existing and future projects. This tool helps in communication between different layers of the companies and in transferring data and information from the completed projects in the past. Since the construction industry is one of the biggest industries in the world, it has lots of different applications and practices with diverse projects. Based on a comprehensive literature review of empirical research and detailed case studies, it is found that, there have been general, as well as project specific elements existing to prevent firms from applying knowledge acquired from their past performance. Lack of coordination and communication slows down the transfer of data from past to present and future projects. Complexity of projects constitutes the main obstacle blocking firms from utilizing knowledge in new settings. Further, the study proposes several strategies for effective utilization of knowledge management in existing and future projects to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of knowledge management use in construction projects resulting in reduction of time and cost and an increase in quality.

Scanning Electron Microscope Configuration of Recycled Carbon Fiber Composites: Mini Review by Seyed Hossein Mamanpush in Crimson Publishers : Open Journal of Civil Engineering Carbon fiber composites (CFCs) were mechanically refined and classified the scanning electron microscope (SEM) configuration of untreated and heat-treated mechanically recycled carbon fiber epoxy and carbon fiber vinyl ester composite was examined by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). SEM Results indicate that the main defects in the structure of recycled CFCs are broken fibers, fiber pull-out, fiber-matrix separation. Tensile Behavior of Single Cast-in Anchors in Plastic Hinge Zones by Jian Zhao in  Crimson Publishers :  Advancements in Civil Engineering & Technology This paper presents two tests of ¾-in. diameter cast-in anchors embedded in the plastic hinge zone of reinforced concrete columns. Design codes, such as ACI 318-11, do not allow concrete anchors in concrete that could be substantially damaged during an earthquake unless special reinforcement is provided. Recent studies have concluded that key role of anchor reinforcement, in addition to carrying the forces from the anchors, is to protect concrete around the anchors from splitting, breaking out, and crushing.
